NEW COMPANY OFFERS ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS TO PROPERTY OWNERS

A new, independent, specialist, company known as Envos, has been established to provide environmental solutions and certification to commercial property owners and their agents. Envos services include Carbon Audits, Energy and Business Management Systems and Energy Certification, including the new Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Display Energy Certificates (DECs).

With its extensive property experience, Envos aims work closely with landlords who must meet their obligations under new EU legislation on energy performance. By October 2008, all properties (apart from a few exceptions) will require an EPC prior to construction sale or lease and all public buildings are required to display an energy certificate that gives an operational energy rating.

Envos Director Wade Barker says that companies now recognize there are real financial benefits to being greener. “By reviewing the operation of a commercial building through a detailed Envos audit, significant savings can be made. Ultimately, a greener building, with lower energy costs, will have a higher market value.”

Large property portfolios will be most affected by the sheer volume of work needed to help their properties comply, and to obtain necessary flexibility to sell in an increasingly demanding market. Clients who use their initiative and get EPCs early will have more flexibility in letting or selling their properties as they will have the necessary certification to allow them to start marketing their property at a time to suit them. Envos is in early discussions with a number of property agents to provide EPC assessments for their clients.
